Rihanna: “I wanted it to be funky, edgy and casual.”

by Melody on February 9th, 2008

Rihanna hopes H&M consumers will shower their support for H&M’s Fashion Against AIDS line, which hits stores today. The “Umbrella” singer designed her tank top - part of the store’s collection of celebrity-designed tanks, tops and hoodies - to benefit global HIV/AIDS-prevention projects. “I wanted it to be funky, edgy and casual. Something I would wear,” says the first-time designer about her cool racer-back tank. “I have a few at home. I wear it to travel, to go out. It’s sexy but it’s edgy.”

Rihanna’s top is emblazoned with the word “Believe,” the name of her personal charity, and retails for $15. The tag reads, “This might be the most important piece of clothing you’ve ever had your hands on.” The sultry Bajan songbird is in good company. Artists and bands such as Good Charlotte, Timbaland and My Chemical Romance have all lent their designing hands to the cause.

“This is my first time getting to work with a major line like H&M,” she says. The singer is also the face of the company’s ad campaign promoting the new collection. “I think it’s great because they will get the message out to everybody. A lot of young people come to H&M to shop.”

As for this Sunday’s big game, The Post is happy to report Rihanna is all New York, all the time.

“I hope they win,” she says of Big Blue. “The Giants are the underdogs, and I always root for the underdogs.”
