Umbrella second highest selling single in UK!
Amy Winehouse’s smash second album ‘Back To Black’ has been confirmed as the biggest selling album of the year this week by the official UK charts Company.
The 50’s inspired jazz-pop LP sold a total of 1.85m copies in 2007, in excess of 250,000 more than Leona Lewis’ ‘Spirit’ which was second in the top selling albums chart at 1.59m sold in just seven weeks on sale.
A spokesman for the official UK Charts company said: “Amy’s success highlights that she is not just about tabloid headlines, but that her music speaks for itself.
“Back To Black continues to be an impressive word-of-mouth hit.”
Mika’s remarkable breakthrough was confirmed as his debut album ‘Life in Cartoon Motion’ notched third place, ahead of Take That’s ‘Beautiful World’, Westlife’s ‘Back Home’, the Eagles’ ‘Long Road Out of Eden’ and Kaiser Chiefs’ ‘Yours Truly Angry Mob’, while releases from Arctic Monkeys, Timbaland and Rihanna completed the 2007 Top 10 albums.
On the singles chart, 2006 X Factor winner Leona Lewis has this year’s biggest hit with ‘Bleeding Love’ shifting 788,000 copies in 10 weeks.
Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ came in a predicable second, while Mika’s ‘Grace Kelly’ was the third highest-selling track of the year. Leon Jackson and Take that rounded out the top ten.
On this week’s Top 40, Leon Jackson took a second week at No. 1 with his debut singe ‘When You Believe’ while Lewis’ ‘Bleeding Love’ remained at two and Soulja Boy Tellem’s ‘Crank That’ held the No. 3 spot.
