Rihanna Tricks Nokia Theater Crowd!

New Yorkers must not be superstitious because when Rihanna performed “Umbrella” last night (October 11) at the New York City’s Nokia Theater, the fans in the audience just started raising their umbrellas. It’s usually considered bad luck, but as rainy as that day was, everyone had an umbrella on them, so it just seemed appropriate to open them up. At first you didn’t think that she was going to perform “Umbrella”—the greatest hit of her short career. After she sang “Shut up and Drive” she yelled, “Thank you, New York” and ran of the stage; leaving the fans yelling, “Do ‘Umbrella’!” or “What about ‘Umbrella’?” When everyone thought it was over she came back out with her silver suit, showing off her million-dollar insured legs for an encore performance of the hit song.

She’s had plenty of practice touring Europe, Canada and a few other U.S. cities before hitting the Big Apple. She definitely knew how to work the crowd, singing other crowd favorites like “Unfaithful” and “Break It Off.” Rihanna even started scratching on the turntables before performing her new single, “Don’t Stop the Music.”
This was the first time that Rihanna had ever sold out the Nokia Theater, displaying the increasing rate of her superstardom.
