TRACK OF THE WEEK: Rihanna’s newest single ‘Hate That I Love You’
“Hate That I Love You” is the newest single from Rihanna’s third album, “Good Girl Gone Bad.” The song features popular R&B singer, Ne-Yo, who had success earlier this year with the debut single from his sophomore album “Because of You,” and who also helped write Rihanna’s 2006 summer smash hit, “Unfaithful.”
“Hate That I Love You” is a mid-tempo, acoustic guitar-driven track, similar to Fergie’s recent #1 hit, “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” Ne-Yo and Rihanna deliver nice vocals over the clapping rhythms and layover background vocals. The song is a duet between a man and a woman who sing their disappointment in their mutual affection, when they know they do not want to be with each other anymore. I suppose I, myself, “hate that I love” this song so much because it is catchy and a slight departure from the pop-infectious “Umbrella” and rock-driven “Shut Up and Drive.” I recommend a listen (and perhaps a purchase) on iTunes as soon as possible.
