Rihanna to Be Guest on Canadian Idol
TORONTO (CP) - Music superstars Avril Lavigne, Rihanna, Maroon 5 and Mika are among the guests slated to appear this year on Canadian Idol, CTV’s eTalk reported Wednesday.
Ben Mulroney, host of eTalk and Idol, says Rihanna will kick off the celebrity appearances next week with a special episode of the reality singing contest. CTV adds that Rihanna will perform her No. 1 hit, “Umbrella,” live on Wednesday.
The announcement was made as contestants were whittled down to 10 hopefuls.
When the three million votes were tallied, four teens learned they didn’t make the cut: Liam Styles Chang, 17, of Victoria; Montana Martin Iles, 16, of Sainte-Julienne, Que., Tyler Mullendore, 19, of Lake Ainslie, N.S. and Annika Odegard, 16, of Calgary.
The finalists - five females and five males - range in age from 16 to 28 and hail from Mission, B.C. to Hare Bay, NL.
The Top 10 are: student Jaydee Bixby, 16, Drumheller, Alta.; lobster fisherman Dwight d’Eon, 28, West Pubnico, N.S.; day care worker Khalila G., 23, Dorval, Que.; waitress Carly Rae Jepsen, 21, Mission, B.C.; student Martha Joy, 16, Toronto; construction worker Brian Melo, 24, Hamilton; student Mila Miller, 17, Toronto; house framer Greg Neufeld, 23, Abbotsford, B.C.; singer Tara Oram, 23, Hare Bay, N.L.; student Matt Rapley, 18, Regina.
